Basic Eastern Armenian: zero-to-one

A separate course for a reader of Armenian script who is starting with essentially no vocabulary or grammar. The aim is a first set of useful exchanges, not a fluency or CEFR claim.

Start here

  1. Open START-HERE.html for the offline web edition, or read these Markdown files directly.
  2. Read the pronunciation guide. Every core item and every dialogue line has a broad pronunciation cue.
  3. Read a small part of a lesson, cover the answers, attempt the recall prompts, and do the communicative task. Correct one useful issue and retry with a changed detail.
  4. Reuse earlier material in later lessons. No study or mastery has been recorded on your behalf.

Course route

  1. Introductions and politeness
  2. Clarification and basic needs
  3. Food and cafés
  4. Places and directions
  5. Daily routines
  6. People and plans
  7. Yesterday and next actions
  8. Integrated exchanges

Each lesson contains five word items, five chunks, five sentences, a bilingual dialogue, a short pattern explanation, recall prompts with hidden keys, a task, and a repair/reuse step. Start from what you can communicate, not a target number of cards per day.

Optional retrieval

Recognition self-test · Production self-test. Say or write an answer before expanding it. The two directions use separate pages to keep the production answer out of sight. These are not an SRS scheduler and do not track progress. cards.tsv contains the same recognition/production prompts as portable data with eight named columns; lesson-NN.json preserves structured item data. Nothing from this course was imported into Gabe’s Anki collection.

Provenance and limits

Sources and adaptations records real references to the existing Anki material and what was borrowed. Controlled course examples and reading cues are assistant-authored/adapted and parent-reviewed, not native-speaker-validated. No audio is included. Keep this beginner course separate from Gabe’s Everyday Eastern curriculum and review history.
