Functional outcome: Ask for repetition, say what you understand, and make a simple request.
This is a beginner-controlled Eastern Armenian lesson, not a proficiency guarantee. Read the Armenian first; the phonetic cues are approximate aids, not IPA or native-speaker validation.

| sentence | Այո, հասկանում եմ։ | Yes, I understand. | a-YO, has-ka-NOOM em. |
| sentence | Ոչ, չեմ հասկանում։ | No, I do not understand. | voch', ch'em has-ka-NOOM. |
| sentence | Խնդրում եմ, կրկնեք։ | Please repeat. | khən-DROOM em, kərk-NEK'. |
| sentence | Ինձ օգնություն է պետք։ | I need help. | eendz og-noo-T'YOON e petk'. |
| sentence | Կարո՞ղ եք դանդաղ խոսել։ | Can you speak slowly? | ka-ROGH ek' dan-DAGH kho-SEL? |
Չեմ հասկանում means “I do not understand”: չեմ supplies first-person negation here. Խնդրում եմ is a conventional “please.” Learn Ինձ ... է պետք as a whole need frame: Ինձ ջուր է պետք = I need water. Ինձ means “to me,” not the subject pronoun “I.”
Read for meaning first. Then cover the English and try the exchange.
| Speaker | Armenian | Meaning | Approximate cue |

| Visitor | Կներեք, չեմ հասկանում։ | Excuse me, I don’t understand. | kə-ne-REK', ch'em has-ka-NOOM. |
| Clerk | Լավ։ | Okay. | lav. |
| Visitor | Կրկնեք, խնդրում եմ։ | Repeat, please. | kərk-NEK', khən-DROOM em. |
| Clerk | Իհարկե։ Դանդաղ խոսե՞մ։ | Of course. Shall I speak slowly? | ee-HAR-ke. dan-DAGH kho-SEM? |
| Visitor | Այո, շնորհակալություն։ | Yes, thank you. | a-YO, shə-nor-ha-ka-loo-T'YOON. |
In a shop or with a language partner, politely signal a breakdown: say “I do not understand,” then request repetition or slower speech. Reuse a greeting and շնորհակալություն.
Make your first attempt without copying the dialogue. If one phrase fails, isolate that phrase, compare it with the Learn table, say/write it once in a new context, then repeat the whole task. Do not mark it “known” merely because it was visible.
Before the next lesson, reuse one earlier greeting, one courtesy phrase, and one previous task phrase in a new two-line exchange.
